Compounds are groups of two or more elements that are bonded together in a definite fixed ratio.The ratio of each element is usually expressed by chemical formula.

For example, water ( $H_{2}$ $H_2$ O) is a compound consisting of two hydrogen atoms bonded to an oxygen atom. The two elements are in a definite ratio, two atoms of Hydrogen chemically combine with one atom of oxygen to make chemical compound called water.
