For this property, I'm going to start with the definition and, then, do an example after.

The Distributive Property:

$a (b + c) = a b + a c$ $a ( b + c ) = ab + ac$ ---- (i)

Where $a$ $a$ , $b$ $b$ and $c$ $c$ are any real numbers.

First, let me remind you what it means when two letters are right next to each other in math. This is an Algebra thing!

$a \cdot (b + c) = a \cdot b + a \cdot c$ $a * ( b + c ) = a * b + a * c$
When two things are next to each other, it means multiplication!

$13 x (3 y + z)$ $13x ( 3y + z)$

$a (b + c) = a b + a c$ $a ( b + c ) = ab + ac$ ---- (i)
as per the equation (i) $a = 13 x$ $a= 13x$ , $b = 3 y$ $b=3y$ , $c = z$ $c = z$

$13 x (3 y + z) = 13 x . 3 y + 13 x . z$ $13x ( 3y + z) = 13x . 3y + 13x .z$

$= 13 \cdot 3 \cdot x \cdot y + 13 x \cdot z$ $= 13*3*x*y + 13 x*z$

$= 39 x y + 13 x z$ $=39 xy + 13xz$
