A particle is an individual constituent of a body discernible from the total mass of the body such as a quark being a particle to an atom or a cell being a particle to a molecule or a person being a particle to a group.
In physics a particle usually refers to a subatomic constituent of the universe that has mass and/or volume.
Whether or not the particle is in a body/group or isolated it is still discerned as a particle in the same that way we can say that a group wants something and that a member of that group wants something. We recognize the group member as an individual and at the same time identify them as a member of that group.
