Ribosomes and the mitochondrion are specialized structures in a cell.
Ribosomes are made up of ribosomal RNA and proteins.Their function is to synthesize proteins,by linking amino acids together in order specified by messenger RNA.Ribosomes consist of two major components — the small ribosomal subunit which reads the RNA, and the large subunit which joins amino acids to form a polypeptide chain.
Mitochondrion(pl.mitochondria) is described as ''the powerhouse of the cell" because they generate most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy.
