$2x - 8 < 7$

Adding 8 to both sides will give us:

$2x - cancel(8) + cancel(8) < 7 + 8$

$2x < 15$

Dividing both sides by 2 will give us:

$(cancel(2)x)/cancel(2) < 15/2$

$x < 15/2$
