We do. The important distinction is that your mitochondria need the oxygen that you are asking about.

Explanation:

The air that you breath 100% then you should understand that 78% is Nitrogen gas, Oxygen makes up 20% and the remainder gases (2%) are Carbon Dioxide, Water and other gases (argon, helium etc).

The gases that you inhale, including oxygen, are transported by oxygen binding proteins (hemoglobin in red blood cells and stored in myoglobin found in muscle cells.) to the the mitochondria of your cells.

You should also understand that you breath to exhale Carbon Dioxide. This is very important to maintain pH.
