Explanation:

Ionic compounds form what is called a crystalline lattice (crystal) structure. This means that there are many atoms bonded to each other in all directions. The final result is a giant three-dimensional lattice structure that exists as a solid.

A common example of an ionic compound is table salt or NaCl. Just by looking, you can tell they are tiny crystals. If you looked very close, you would be able to see the repeated bonded structure.
