Re=(13) and Im=±2012

Complex numbers. The plot does not cross the x-axis

Explanation:

Given: 34x3x4=2

write as: 34x+12x4=2

Using the common denominator of 4x gives:

Write as: 3+12x24x=2

Giving:

12x28x+3=0

Using x=b±b24ac2a

std form: ax2+bx+c=0

Thus we have:

x=8±641442a

Straight off we have a negative root so the quadratic does not cross the x-axis. Any solution would be expressed as complex numbers.

x=8±8024

But 80=2×4×10 and 1=i

so 80=1×2×4×10=220 i

Giving:

x=(13±2012 i)

Where Re=(13) and Im=±2012
