Protein is a molecule that can be made of several lengths of a poly-peptide chain. several hundred to several thousand amino acids connected together.

Explanation:

Within the chain there are the peptide bonds which are covalent ones. Then between the different amino acids are several other types of bonds that can be made leading to the folding of this chain in many different ways. This makes it possible for the protein to get the structure needed for the function. So if we need a flat sheet for a protein to harden in the nail for example, this protein can be made. If we need a globular protein with a dent on the side to make an enzyme, then the amino acids will arrange themselves in such a way and the different types of bonds will hold the shape.
