The heart pumps blood through blood vessels and the blood carries nutrients, oxygen and hormones to all cells of the body. The cells use this products for their metabolism. As a result of this metabolism, metabolic waste products and carbon-dioxide are formed.
These metabolic waste and carbon-dioxide are also carried by the blood from the cells to kidneys and lungs. Kidneys are the organ of excretion of metabolic waste, and lungs exhale away carbon-dioxide.
The cardiovascular system also maintain body temperature and white blood cells inside the blood vessels fight off infection.
