Alcohol is classified as a depressant. It makes the person have slurred speech, unsteady movement, disturbed perceptions and an inability to react quickly.

The amount of alcohol can affect how a person feel. Most people that drink alcohol to loosen up to have the"stimulant effect", such as a beer or glass of wine. But if you drink too much it becomes a depressant which is what it is originally classified as. If it becomes an overdose, it can lead to a person's death.
Different kinds of drinks have a different amount of alcohol in it.
For example:
Beer 2–6% alcohol
Cider 4–8% alcohol
Wine 8–20% alcohol
Tequila 40% alcohol
Rum 40% or more alcohol
Brandy 40% or more alcohol
Gin 40–47% alcohol
Whiskey 40–50% alcohol
Vodka 40–50% alcohol
Liqueurs 15–60% alcohol
etc...
How much and how quickly you drink of each different of drink and if you drinks a combination of them, the effect is going to be different.
