Two main ways: 1) by taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and 2) financial costs related to more and more extreme weather events.
Explanation:
In 2015, all governments around the world agreed in Paris to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. They all took on self-selected targets and are now obligated to put in place policies and laws to meet these targets.
Secondly, the real impacts of climate change are starting to be felt by all governments as weather and climate related disasters are starting to become more and more frequent. A wildfire, heat event, intense rain/flood event can costs government billions of dollars in helping citizens deal with these disasters.
