Eukaryotic cells, the type all animals on Earth today are composed of, evolved from earlier Prokaryotic cells by endosymbiosis.

Explanation:

Eukaryotic cells are thought to have evolved from their earlier Prokaryotic ancestors. Eukaryotic have complex internal structures called organelles that have taken on specialized functions (including the nucleus for housing DNA, energy production, and others).

Evidence has accumulated that the formation of more complex eukaryotic cells happened through endosymbiosis - basically, early Prokaryotic bacteria engulfed other bacteria and instead of digesting them, they formed a symbolic relationship with them that survives to this day. Later on, these eukaryotic cells joined together for form multi-cellular organisms, including humans much later.
