Sweat glands are also known as sudoriferous or sudoriparous glands.
Explanation:
These are small tubular structures present in the skin , that produce sweat.
Sweat helps in regulation of body temperature, and provides a route for excretion of electrolytes and water. It also maintains the skins acid mantle.
Types of sweat glands :
1) eccrine glands : distributed all over the body in various densities.
2) apocrine glands : limited to axilla and perianal regions of human body.
Ceruminous glands ( ear wax ) , mammary glands ( milk ) and ciliary glands ( in eyelids ) are modified apocrine sweat glands.
