Explanation:

Varicose veins are when the veins become curled and twisted, which means the blood flow will hit the walls of the vessels instead of flowing along smoothly.

What this does is essentially block the momentum of the traveling blood, and if the kink in the twisting of the vessel is severe enough, it can lead the blood to even travel backwards for a slight distance.
