The ionic bond is that made within ions, i.e. a positive ion (cation) and a negative one (anion).

Explanation:

When an atom loses one (or more) electron, it becomes a cation, A^{+}. Another atom, can get an electron and becomes an anion, B^{-}.

Then, cause diferent sign charges have an atraction force between them, these ions remain bounded by an ionic bond between them.

A rightarrow A^{+} + e^{-}
B + e^{-} rightarrow B^{-}

A^{+} + B^{-} rightarrow AB (ionic bond).
