Meiosis which is otherwise known as reduction division is very important for sexual reproduction.

- Meiosis plays a major role in maintaining the number of chromosomes the same from one generation to the other.
- In the absence of Meiosis, the number of chromosomes will differ from generation to generation, which may result in the occurrence of variations.
- Hence in order to maintain the number of chromosomes same from generation to generation Meiosis is very important.
