Explanation:
Taxonomic Ranking today is used to classify the organisms and hence establish evolutionary relationships. Each step within this classification is called as a Rank.

As you see, each of the levels is a Rank.
As one moves down the Ranking, the organisms are more closely related because the similarities between the organisms increase, or one can say, the similar organisms are being grouped together as one approaches the lowest level, that is, Species.
