All alkalis are bases but not all bases are alkalis

Explanation:

An alkali is a base that is soluble in water.For example, caustic soda (#NaOH#) and Ferrous hydroxide[#Fe(OH)_2#] both are bases.But, sodium hydroxide is an alkali and calcium hydroxide is just a base.

Sodium hydroxide is easily soluble in water so it is an alkali while Ferrous hydroxide is not.So, it isn't an alkali.This doesn't mean that it is not a base .It is a base, but not an alkali.

Hence, all alkalis are bases but not all bases are alkalis.
