What is the behavior therapy procedure that uses classical conditioning to evoke new responses to stimuli that triggering unwanted behaviors?
1 Answer
When given something you like with something you don't
Explanation:
A case study of a young boy who was afraid of rabbits. Psychologists realised that while he was eating he was completely relaxed so began to feed him while he was near a rabbit. Eventually he was able to have a rabbit in a cot with him without the need to feed him at the same time. He was classically conditioned to become completely relaxed with rabbit.
However, with the obesity crisis in the modern world this is no longer allowed. Instead the patient is taught deep muscle relaxant techniques so that they too can become relaxed around the stimuli.
A personal case study is a friend of mine who was terrified of flying so went to see a therapist and after flying a few times while doing her exercises was able to completely relax on a plane instead of having a panic attack.
