Explanation:
We never bothered to give the star that is the center of our planetary system any other name other than 'Sol'. Since it dominates the system and is the reason for all the planets to orbit it, we called the whole system, the solar system (meaning 'of the Sun'). Every other star (and its system) gets a name in order to distinguish them from ours.
