As a reaction to the slaughter of World War 2 and as a reflection of the determination of the UN to stop this happening again.
Explanation:
The In rose from the ashes of World War2 and replaced the largely ineffectual League of Nations. Given the suffering endured as a result of World War 2 where upwards of 70 million people lost their lives the UN was determined to set out a Declaration of Human Rights to which everyone was entitled.
The Declaration applies to all aspects of human society, social, political and economic and is still a cornerstone of the UN today for example through the work of its specialised agencies.
