Sperms are deposited in vagina from where these enter the uterus through a short but narrow passage called cervix.

To reach fallopian tube where an egg could be present, the sperms must swim across the uterine cavity which they do at a rate of 5mm/minute. Flagellar tail of sperm helps in achieving such motility.

Contraction of uterine muscles after intercourse also help in rapid transport of sperms towards fallopian tube.

Once inside fallopian tube, the flagellar beating of sperm becomes vigorous which helps the sperm successfully reach the egg.
