A block of wood has a fixed, uniform density and a regular shape I am assuming. Knowing that, if 1/3 of the block is above the water, then 2/3 of the block are submerged. The water will displace the volume of the block that is in the fluid.
Therefore, Since 2/3 of the block is under the water, then 2/3 of the blocks volume in water will be displaced. Thus, 2/3 is less than 1 which would represent the total volume of the block proportionally.
