#4/3#, find a common denominator, divide common denominator by your denominator and multiply by the numerator, then add the numbers.

Explanation:

At first we have to find a common denominator (a number that both denominators can be divided by.)
In our case such number is 24.
1) We convert both fractions into something#/24#
We do this by dividing: #24/8# (common denominator/our denominator) and then multiplying the result by the numerator)
Process with the first fraction:
#24/8=3 => 3*4=12#
We do the same with the second fraction
#24/12=2, ->2*10=20#
2) We add the fraction we got.
#(12+20)/24#
And we get the result: #32/24#
If we divide this by 8, we get a final result: #4/3# or 1.3333333333333
