Why is it hard for farmers to grow crops in Haiti?

Haiti has had a hard time managing their natural resources.
Explanation:
This is the border between Haiti and the Dominican Republic. Haiti is on the left, and it looks like a barren desert. Since Haiti has always been a very poor country, they've been forced to unsustainably use their forests and lands, which has led to the entire country being devoid of forests.
Getting rid of forests and all root systems means there's going to be horrible erosion, bad water quality, and poor soil nutrient quality as well. All of these are horrible for growing any kind of crops.
See details below...
Explanation:
There are several reasons to that.
A poor country usually doesn't have the equipment they need to use and grow the crops properly. They ended up using things they shouldn't use. Something like crops, the farmers should make sure they are using the right equipment for them, if not the crops will not grow like they should grow.

When an island like Haiti is overpopulated, the inhabitants have house all over the island.

As you can see in the picture, it requires a lot of lands to grow crops. In Haiti, since the life conditions is not good over there, people would use the land to build house or other stuff instead of growing crops.
Haiti and Florida has almost the same weather. However, Haiti is smaller then Florida, which means if a hurricane pass or if it is raining a lot, Haiti would get affected more than Florida. The farmers realized that growing crops will be a waste of time and money, because when the hurricane comes or if it is raining too much, they will lost everything they've done.

As you can see in the picture, the hurricane covers all over Haiti. That means people on the North of Haiti will lost everything they have. So, this is also one of the reasons farmers in Haiti don't grow crops.

This is how it looks like after a hurricane hits Haiti couple years ago. So, this is also one of the reasons it is hard for farmers to grow crops.
Thus,
It is hard for farmers to grow crops in Haiti because:
- The island is overpopulated
- The island is poor
- The weather sometimes bad there, such as hurricane and too much rain
- The poor quality of land
