Wilson was a Democrat who believed in a strong federal government( he started the Federal Reserve System in1913 for instance) and he thought America should intervene militarily in foreign and had his country join WWI and supported the creation of the League of Nations which preceded the UN and aimed at preserving peace.

Harding, as a Republican believed much more in laissez faire, and he promoted isolationism, in the Twenties America went back to its Isolationist stance it had given up by joining WWI.
