No, coal is not considered a mineral because it is formed from organic matter.

There are five properties that all minerals have to have to be considered a pure mineral.
- must be naturally occurring in the environment (Not made in a laboratory)
- made from inorganic matter (Coal breaks this rule because coal is made from plant matter)
- have a specific chemical composition
- have crystalline solids
- have atoms that are arranged in a repeated pattern
