Given that

#5x+y=8\ .......(2)#

Multiplying (2) by #3# on both sides & subtracting from (1), we get

#2x+3y-3(5x+y)=-1-3\times8#

#-13x=-25#

#x=25/13#

setting #x=25/13# in (2), we get

#5(25/13)+y=8#
