$W = 12$ $W = 12$ cm
$L = 36$ $L = 36$ cm

Perimeter of rectangle $P = 2 \cdot W + 2 \cdot L$ $P= 2*W+2*L$

We are told $L = 3 W$ $L=3W$

and $P = 96$ $P=96$

so $96 = 2 \cdot W + 2 \cdot 3 \cdot W$ $96 = 2* W+2*3*W$

$8 W = 96$ $8W = 96$

so $W = \frac{96}{8} = 12$ $W = 96/8 = 12$ cm

and $L = 3 \cdot 12 = 36$ $L = 3*12 = 36$ cm
