How many bones are in the human body?
1 Answer
The number of bones in the human body depends on the age of the body and who is the authority you are using.
The skeleton of an adult human consists of 206 bones.
It is composed of 270 bones at birth (some say 300), which decreases to 206 bones by adulthood after some bones have fused together.
Many small and often variable bones, such as sesamoid bones and ossicles ( 3 in each ear), are not included in this count.
Some people have more or less than this. Some people have more ribs and some have fewer ribs. About 8% of us have one or more extra ribs. Do you see the extra rib on the person left side?
Some sesamoid bones are: the patella, three in the hand, one in the wrist, four in the foot and the hyoid.
Injury to some in the foot cause "turf toe".
