How exactly does Socratic make money?

Socratic does not currently make money.
We are a venture funded startup, which means we've raised money from investors to support the company and to build out our community and product. The idea is that Socratic will become valuable over time and those investors will get a return on their investment in the future.
We do not currently monetize Socratic and have no plans to do so in the near future. The advantage of raising money from investors is that we can focus entirely on the community and product at this stage.
We don't have specific plans on how we will monetize Socratic in the future, but we do know that the core Q&A content will always be free.
To guarantee this, we've placed all Socratic content under a Creative Commons license, which means that anyone can reuse, repurpose, and remix Socratic content for non-commercial purposes (learn more here).
