Sodium chloride dissociates:

NaCl_((s)) +(aq)rarrNa_((aq))^(+)+Cl_((aq))^(-)

Two other examples:

MgSO_(4(s))+(aq)rarrMg_((aq))^(2+)+SO_(4(aq))^(2-)

KNO_(3(s))+(aq)rarrK_((aq))^(+)+NO_(3(aq))^(-)
