A square root is the opposite of a square (exponent of 2).

Explanation:

For example:

$\sqrt{121} = 11 \cdot 11; 11^{2}$ $sqrt121 = 11*11;11^2$

Notice that in the answer (11*11) both numbers are the same.

$\sqrt{-} 1$ $sqrt -1$ is a bit more complicated, with the answer being $i$ $i$ as no two identical numbers can be multiplied together to get -1.
