A buffer solution moderates gross changes in solution pH.

Explanation:

A buffer solution is a mixture of a weak acid and it conjugate base in appreciable quantities. It acts to reduce gross changes in solution pH. Biochemical systems are extensively buffered.

For such a solution:

pH=pKa+log10{[A][HA]}

It is clear that at the point of half equivalence, i.e. [A]=[HA], then pH=pKa, because log101=0

On the other hand, a buffet, especially an all you can eat buffet, is where you go to stuff your face.
