There was a lot of state creation caused by the dissolution of the Ottoman, Austria-Hungarian, and Russian Empires. Germany ceded its Colonial Empire.

The Baltic States were created in the aftermath of World War 1 and were independent until 1939. The Communists would soon absorb most of the other former Russian areas. Poland had a brief post war expansion only to lose areas back to the Communists.
A lot of the modern Middle Eastern states were created in the ashes of the Ottoman Empire.
Germany's Colonial Empire, in Africa and the Pacific, was divided among the Victors. South West Africa and Palestine became mandates of the League of Nations.
