It is not the burns but infection after burns that causes the death
Explanation:
Skin is the largest organ of the body. It envelops entire body and protects us against infection of microorganisms.
From clinical point of view, loss of skin layer due to burning means body surface is now exposed to all kinds of microorganisms.
Our body's defence mechanism fails to protect the body against this onslaught of infection. This leads to death.
Loss of body fluids after burns can be replaced but we are unable to prevent the infection.
