Saturated hydrocarbons have general formula C_nH_(2n+2). Each degree of unsaturation, i.e. each olefinic bond, or ring junction, reduces the hydrogen count BY TWO; i.e. olefins and cylcoalkanes have general formula C_nH_(2n).
