Explanation:
A "wadi" is the traditional name for a valley.
Often these valleys host riverbeds that are dry for most of the time being flooded by water only by occasional heavy rainfall causing flash-flooding.
Wadi shows braided stream patterns on flat or gently sloping areas of the desert.
Even if the surface of the wadi is dry water may flow below it deeper in the ground allowing for plants to grow. The local population may exploit this water by digging wells along the wadi.
