From kinetic theory, the expression for diffusion coefficient is,

D=13¯vλ

But, from Maxwell's expression for mean free path,

λ=12nσ2π
Where σ is molecular diameter.

Thus, the diffusion coefficient,

D=¯v32πσ2n

Since, ρ=mn is the density, then,

D=¯vm32ρπσ2

Therefore, the diffusion coefficient varies inversely with density!
