Is stolon a synonym for runner in plants?

I think stolon is other name for runner : a horizontal branch that appears at the base of plant and runs close to ground. Roots grow from its nodes.
Stolons help in vegetative propagation of plants. Strawberry, colocasia, various grasses propagate by runners.
