Environment may change the level of expression of some genes.
Explanation:
Firstly, this is not the only way to influence traits for the environment.
The most common example of this issue is the Himalayan rabbit.
When the Himalayan rabbit lives in cold conditions, its fur changes its color to black.

In an experiment, as shown in the picture, an icepack was located on the back of the rabbit which was initially white. After a while, the fur in that region became black.
Therefore, it can be clearly seen that temperature affects the expression of the genes that control the color of the fur in this organism.
I really don't know what is the mechanism but i suppose that temperature change affects activity of a group of enzyme that directly play role in transcriptional regulation or influnce factors that are related with transcriptional regulator.
