Well, as always this is a question of materials.
Explanation:
Magnesium, and its alloys, are high strength materials, and for their strength they are relatively LOW mass due to the low atomic mass of magnesium. I am told that the old Volkswagen engines, the flat-four boxer motors had magnesium engine casings, and disastrous results occurred whenever someone uninformed try to weld something onto them.
