H_2C=CH_2 + H_2 rarr H_3C-CH_3

H_2C-=CH_2 + 2H_2 rarr H_3C-CH_3

Given Avogadro's law, equal volumes of gases contain equal numbers of molecules under the same temperature and pressure, i.e. Vpropn.

And so for the hydrogenation of ethylene we need a 0.25*dm^3 volume of dihydrogen, and for the hydrogenation of acetylene, we need a 0.50*dm^3 volume of dihydrogen.
