Question #42ac9
1 Answer
The conflict has both world wide political and religious conflict implications
Explanation:
The conflict between the Arabs and Israel has political implications. The Muslim World had long controlled the land known as Israel and Palestine. The Western European Nations with Christian traditions had controlled the land from World War I to 1948. The Jewish nation of Israel has controlled the land since 1948. The political conflict over the land is intense and divides the world.
The religious implications are intense. The Muslim World regards the land as sacred because the Muslims controlled the land. Also, the land contains Jerusalem one of the three most sacred sites in Islam. The Muslim world believes that Islam should control the land they call Palestine.
The Christian Religion regards the land as sacred as the land where Jesus the Christ was born, lived, died and was resurrected. The European Christian World wants the land called both Israel and Palestine to be split between a Jewish nation and an Islamic nation. The city of Jerusalem is desired to be under the political control of the UN.
The Jewish Religion regards the land as sacred also. The ancient land of Israel is the homeland of the Jewish religion, and they believe was promised to them by God. Jerusalem was the site of the Jewish temple the center of worship.
The Muslim world under the Ottoman Turks had controlled the land of Israel until the defeat of the Ottoman Empire in World War I. The area renamed Palestine was given to Britain as a protectorate after World War I.
The British had promised the Jewish people a land in ancient Israel and Palestine in reward for the support of the Jewish people in world war I. The British also promised the Arabs independent nations at the end of the World War I. When the UN partition split the British protectorate into two nations these two promises came into conflict.
There seems to be no resolution to the claim for total political and religious control by the Muslim World and the claim for partial political and religious control by the Jewish Nation.
