Along which river, besides the Mississippi, were the greatest number of French fur-trading posts located?

1 Answer

The Ohio River.

Explanation:

The Ohio River valley was an important part of the French fur trade before the French and Indian Wars.

The control of the Ohio River Valley was the sparking point of the global war between France and England. Both France and England, Virginia claimed the Ohio River Valley. France was determined to retain control of what is now know Pittsburgh in order to retain control of the fur trade along the Ohio River.

The French built a fort ( Fort Duquesne ) at the point where the three rivers come together. Efforts to retake the area by the Virginians under George Washington was cause of the first fighting in what would become a global war.
