I will assume that "Andy is twice as old as Beth, and in six years their ages will add up to 60". Then Andy is 32 and Beth is 16.

Explanation:

Let a be Andy's age and b be Beth's age. Thus

a=2b

(a+6)+(b+6)=60

The second equation can be simplified, thus

a+b=48

Then with the first equation we must have a=2b, thus it is possible to substitute 2b for a in the simplified second equation:

a+b=48
2b+b=48

Then

3b=48
b=16
a=2b=32
