Are gasses able to be compressed or expanded?

Compressed.
Explanation:
So gases are states without defined volume, thus no defined shape. That is because there is a lot of spaces in between each individual particle. Multiply this by a billion or so, and you have a lot of extra "space" to spare. That's why when a syringe "inhales" in air, then you cover the seal with something, and push on the syringe, you can in fact, push.
This amount of space allows it to be compressed - pressurized = the outward force pushing on the object. If you compress the object too much, the bonds between each particle is too much to hold, and wanting to expand and can't - explodes or something (depends on the object).
