As a progressive, how did Taft compare with Roosevelt?

Taft was not a Progressive.

Progressives embraced ideas such as unionism, immigration, and suffrage, none of which Taft supported. Conversely, though not truly a progressive himself, Roosevelt had embrace a few of the progressive ideas. Most notably among those was his implementation of the National Park system. Roosevelt spent many summers in Bar Harbor Maine and saw to it that the area known as Arcadia became one of the nation's first national parks. He was also friendly with John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club and a progressive through and through. Still, politically, neither can be characterized as having been a Progressive.
