Roosevelt spent many summers in Bar Harbor Maine and saw to it that the area known as Arcadia became one of the nation's first national parks. He was also friendly with John Muir, founder of the Sierra Club and a progressive through and through. Still, politically, neither can be characterized as having been a Progressive.
