The equation of the line is of the form:

$y = m x + c$ $y=mx+c$

So:

$- 4 = m (- 6) + c$ $-4=m(-6)+c$ $(1)$ $color(red)((1))$

and:

$5 = m (- 2) + c$ $5=m(-2)+c$ $(2)$ $color(red)((2))$

From $(1)$ $color(red)((1))$ :

$c = 6 m - 4$ $c=6m-4$

We subs. this value of c into $(2) \Rightarrow$ $color(red)((2))rArr$

$5 = - 2 m + (6 m - 4)$ $5=-2m+(6m-4)$

$4 m = 9$ $4m=9$

$m = \frac{9}{4} = 2.25$ $m=9/4=2.25$
